Making homes more accessible

The Amy Young Barrier Removal program is funded through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.  We remodel homes to make them more accessible for disabled individuals.

We are currently accepting Amy Young Barrier Removal applications for the urban/rural community.

AMY YOUNG BARRIER REMOVAL PROGRAM

Requirements of program:

  • One person in the household must be disabled

  • House needs to appraise around $30,000.00

  • House needs to meet minimum quality of living standards

  • No foundation issues

  • The electrical is in good condition

  • Plumbing is decent, running water, no septic problems

  • Roof is in stable condition

  • We can do light repairs if money allows

  • No mobile home units

 What we do:

  • Modify home for accessibility, remodel bathrooms, flooring, widen doorways, install ramps and grab bars.

  • We can do minimal health and safety work, but majority needs to be accessibility.

 What we need:

  • Complete application on file

  • All forms from checklist must be on file

  • Certification of disability

  • If Social Security award letter doesn’t have DI in the top right corner we need disability form filled out by doctor.

    There is about a year waiting list for the program.  If we do not have all the information and forms we need, they won’t be put on the waiting list until they do. We do not have any type of emergency funding.
